What would the culture of Christianity look like if all people were equally recognized as image-bearers of God?
About me
Marissa Mattox Heffernan is passionate about bridging the gap between the church and the marginalized through justice-centered teaching. As an ordained Free Methodist Elder, Marissa has served as associate pastor at churches in Central New York, leading in the areas of discipleship, worship, facilitating leadership development. Marissa currently serves in conference ministry as Director of the Genesis Justice Network.
Marissa’s drive in ministry is fueled by worship through music. For almost 20 years, Marissa has served in several different contexts of worship ministry. She has built and led worship teams, toured as a part of a worship duo, and has taught inclusive practices of worship leadership.
The unity experienced in worship has driven Marissa to explore what the culture of Christianity would look like if all people were equally recognized as image-bearers of God. Through teaching and preaching on racial equity and gender equality, Marissa has positioned herself as a bridge-builder between the church and marginalized communities. To this end, Marissa serves as the Affiliate Liaison on the board for the Justice Network of the Free Methodist Church.
Marissa is married to her best friend, Matt, and is mom to three daughters. Marissa loves a good road trip, a good book, and a bag of yarn.
